House passes changes to state job training program requirements

Proposed changes to the state’s job training program requirements are headed to Gov. Mark Dayton.
The House passed HF2937/SF2629*, sponsored by Rep. Anne Neu (R-North Branch) and Sen. Rich Draheim (R-Madison Lake), on a 126-0 vote Monday. The Senate passed it 66-0 on April 25.
Neu said the purpose of the bill is to “update and simplify” state law.
The bill would:
- remove the requirement that education and training courses last an average of six months;
- clarify program participants must be 18 or older on the enrollment date;
- modify financial qualifications for the program; and
- replace existing program reporting requirements with those in the uniform outcome report card.
