The House passed a bill Monday that would allow towns to give money to community food shelves.
Following the 115-10 vote, HF2636, sponsored by Rep. Sondra Erickson (R-Princeton), goes to the Senate, where Sen. Andrew Mathews (R-Milaca) is the sponsor.
The bill would put towns on the same level as counties and cities when it comes to being allowed to provide grants to nonprofits that run community food shelves. It would allow the town’s governing body to use money from the General Fund or any other unrestricted money for these grants.
