EDUCATION POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES

Representative Laurie Pryor, Chair of the Committee on Education Policy, called the meeting to order at 3:01 PM on February 1, 2023 in Room 120 of the Capitol.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Lee moved to approve the minutes from January 31, 2023. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Overview presentation of Educational Options/Flexibility for Student Learning.

Presenting:
• Lucy Payne, School Board Member, Mahtomedi School District; Faculty, University of St. Thomas
• Barb Duffrin, Superintendent, Mahtomedi Public Schools
• Jason Berg, Superintendent, Farmington Public Schools

HF613 (Hanson); High school students allowed to earn elective credits through employment with health care providers.

Representative Berg moved that HF613 be laid over for further consideration or possible inclusion in an Education Policy Committee omnibus bill.

Representative Berg moved the H0613A1 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Hanson presented HF613 as amended.

The following testified on HF613 as amended:

Representative Berg renewed the motion that HF613 as amended be laid over for further consideration or possible inclusion in an Education Policy Committee omnibus bill. The bill was laid over.

HF620 (Youakim); Paraprofessional paid orientation required.

Representative Youakim moved that HF620 be referred to the committee on Education Finance.

Representative Youakim presented HF620.

Representative Youakim renewed the motion that HF620 be referred to the committee on Education Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF923 (Bennett); Nonpublic pupil transportation service agreements authorized.

Representative Bennett moved that HF923 be laid over for further consideration or possible inclusion in an Education Policy Committee omnibus bill.

Representative Bennett presented HF923.

• Megan Forgette, Community Engagement Specialist, Department of Catholic Schools; Archdiocese, St. Paul and Minneapolis

Representative Bennett renewed the motion that HF923 be laid over for further consideration or possible inclusion in an Education Policy Committee omnibus bill. The bill was laid over.
