MINUTES

Representative Bob Dettmer, Chair of the Veterans Affairs Division, called the meeting to order at 12:47 on March 16, 2015, in Room 200 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Dale Lueck moved to approve the minutes of March 9, 2015. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer moved to recommend that HF 506 be re-referred to the Committee on Health and Human Services Reform.

HF 506 Schoen, LPC, LPCC, or LADC temporary licensing provided for former and current military members.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer moved the A15-0128 Amendment on behalf of Representative Dan Schoen. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Dan Schoen introduced HF 506.

Thora Fisko, Ed.S., Executive Secretary of the MN Board of Barber Examiners, testified in favor of HF 506.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer renewed his motion to recommend HF 506, as amended, be re-referred to the Committee on Health and Human Services Reform. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Liz Dapp gave a presentation on the Twin Cities bid for the 2016 Congressional Medal of Honor Society National Conference.

Representative Dale Lueck moved to recommend HF 1556 be re-referred to the Committee on State Government Finance.

HF 1556 Lueck, Hire a Veteran Month changed from May to July.

Representative Dale Lueck introduced HF 1556.

Mike McElhiney, Legislative Director for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, testified about the need to move Hire a Veteran Month from May to July.

Representative Dale Lueck renewed his motion to recommend HF 1556 be re-referred to the Committee on State Government Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Vice Chair Representative Dave Hancock assumed the gavel at 1:09 PM.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer moved to recommend HF 127 be re-referred to the Committee on State Government Finance.

HF 127 Dettmer, USS Minnesota commissioning activities grant funding provided, and money appropriated.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer moved the A15-0134 Amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer introduced HF 127.

Chip Sharratt, Vice President of the Twin Cities Council of the Navy League of the United States, and Brian Skon, President of the Twin Cities Council of the Navy League of the United States, testified in favor of HF 127.

Representative Jerry Newton moved the H0127A1 Amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer renewed his motion to recommend HF 127, as amended, be re-referred to the Committee on State Government Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer reassumed the gavel at 1:32 PM.

Representative Jerry Newton moved to recommend HF 1673 be re-referred to the Committee on State Government Finance.

HF 1673 Newton, Commissioner of veterans affairs guardianship program repealed.

Representative Jerry Newton introduced HF 1673.

Mike McElhiney, Legislative Director for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, testified about why repealing the statute in question would be favorable.

Representative Jerry Newton renewed the motion to recommend HF 1673 be re-referred to the Committee on State Government Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
