MINUTES

Representative Bob Gunther, Chair of the Greater Minnesota Economic & Workforce Development Policy Committee, called the meeting to order at 12:47 p.m. on March 15th, 2016, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Representative Sundin moved that the minutes of Tuesday, March 19th, 2015 be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative O’Neill moved that HF2798 (O‘Neill) be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Committee on Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance.

Representative O’Neill presented HF2798 (Dual Training Grant Program Clarified).

Testifying before committee were the following in favor of HF2798:

Jaci Dukowitz, Director of HR & Development, Ultra Machining Company;
Jessica Looman, Deputy Commissioner, Dept. of Labor and Industry;
Nichole Sorenson, Research Analyst, Minnesota Office of Higher Education;
Jeff Thorstad, Instructor, Hennepin Technical College;
Brad Thorpe, Automation Robotics Engineering Technology Program
Instructor, Hennepin Tech College.

Representative O’Neill renewed the motion that HF2798 pass and be re-referred to the committee on Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Kiel moved that HF2872 (Kiel) be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Committee on Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance.

Representative Kiel presented HF2872 (Greater Minnesota workforce and community development pilot grant program established, and money appropriated).

Testifying before committee were the following in favor of HF2872:

Dan Larson, MN Rural Counties Caucus;
Ben Winchester, Research Fellow, Community Vitality, U of M Extension.



Representative Kiel renewed the motion that HF2872 pass and be re-referred to the committee on Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:01 p.m.
