MINUTES

Representative Sondra Erickson, Chair of the Education Innovation Policy Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:16 AM on February 17, 2015, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative JoAnn Ward moved to approve the minutes of February 12, 2015. THE MOTION PREVAILED.


Representative Roz Peterson moved House File 72 for Representative Sarah Anderson.

Representative Sarah Anderson testified to House File 72.

Nina Manzi from House Research testified to House File 72.

Chair Erickson renewed the Peterson motion and moved House File 72 for re-referral to the Committee on Education Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.


Representative Abigail Whelan moved House File 667 for Representative Sarah Anderson.

Representative Sarah Anderson testified to House File 667.

Chair Erickson renewed the Whelan motion and moved House File 667 for re-referral to the Committee on Education Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.


Representative Eric Lucero moved House File 798 for Representative Jim Knoblach.

Mitch Pearlstein, the founder of the Center of the American Experiment, testified in favor to House File 798.

Jim Bartholomew from the Minnesota Business Partnership testified in favor to House File 798.

Chair Erickson renewed the Lucero motion and moved House File 798 for re-referral to the Committee on Education Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.


Representative Dean Urdahl moved House File 245.

Representative Urdahl moved amendment H0245A1. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Urdahl testified to House File 245.

Dr. Eric Jolly from the Science Museum of Minnesota testified in favor of House File 245.

Chair Erickson laid over House File 245 as amended.


Representative Drew Christensen moved House File 359 for Representative Linda Runbeck.

Representative Linda Runbeck testified to House File 359.

Rachel Berger from Decoding Dyslexia testified in favor to House File 359.

Jody Smith from Decoding Dyslexia shared a personal story of living with dyslexia.

Jane Conlin from Decoding Dyslexia shared a personal story of living with dyslexia.

Chair Erickson renewed the Christensen motion and moved House File 359 for re-referral to the Committee on Education Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.


Gary Amoroso from the Minnesota Association of School Administrators cautioned against using public dollars for tax credit for nonpublic education tuition.



The meeting was adjourned at 9:59 AM.
