AGRICULTURE FINANCE COMMITTEE
MINUTES

Representative Hamilton, Chair of the Agriculture Finance Committee, called the meeting to order at 1:31 P.M. on September 8th, 2015, in Room Five of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Agriculture Finance Committee met jointly with the Agriculture Policy Committee.

Chair Hamilton called the meeting to order at 1:31 P.M. A quorum was present.

The following individuals, representing the poultry producer industry, gave an industry perspective on the High Pathogen Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus: Barb Frank, Robert Orsten, both producers, and Steve Olson of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association and the Chicken and Egg Association.

Rep. Hansen presented a pair of resolutions to the committee from the Midwestern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments and the National Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments.

Santo Cruz of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, introduced Dr. Steve Halstead and gave a presentation on the HPAI Outbreak in Minnesota.

Dr. Steve Halstead, a USDA District Director, gave an agency perspective on the HPAI virus in Minnesota.

Dr. Bill Hartmann, State Veterinarian of the Minnesota Board of Animal Health, gave an agency perspective on the HPAI virus and stood for questions.

Dr. David Halvorson of the University of Minnesota stood for questions from members.

Deputy Commissioner Jim Boerboom of the Department of Agriculture, gave a presentation on use of appropriation funds from the Department.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:29 P.M.
