MINUTES

Representative Mullery, Chair of Committee on Early Childhood and Youth Development Policy, called the meeting to order at 4:01pm Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was not present.

Megan Gunnar, University of Minnesota, presented a summary of research on brain development during early childhood.

A quorum was present at 4:03pm.

Representative Howe moved to approve the minutes from Wednesday, January 30, 2013. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE APPROVED.

Rob Grunewald, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, presented a summary of research on the effectiveness on early education programs.

Richard Chase, Wilder Foundation, presented a summary of the school readiness dividend study.

Nicholas Banovetz, MinnCAN, presented an infographic summary of research into pre-k program benefits.

Barb Yates, Executive Director of Think Small, provided an overview of the areas of focus and recommendations of the Governor's Early Learning Council.

Annie Pearson, Minneapolis Public Schools, provided an overview of the effectiveness of the public-pre-K education programs aligned with kindergarten.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:38pm.
