AGRICULTURE, RURAL ECONOMIES AND VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

MINUTES



Representative Otremba, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:49 P.M. on, February 25, 2009, in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Representative Kath moved approval of the minutes from February 23, 2009.
THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

Andrew Duerr, Committee Administrator, explained to the committee why HF710 had to be heard in front of our committee again.

Representative Doty moves that HF710 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on State and Local Government.

HF710 (Faust) relating to agriculture; changing duties of the Food Safety and Defense Task Force; changing membership and procedures of the Minnesota Organic Advisory Task Force; eliminating language requiring two annual reports

Representative Doty renewed his motion that HF710 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on State Local Government.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Mr. Joe Martin, Assistant Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Agriculture and Mr. John Jaschke, Executive Director, Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources gave a presentation on the clean water summary and explained past and present efforts.

HF797 was postponed to a future date.


The meeting was adjourned at 3:42 PM

HF710 (Faust) Food Safety and Defense Task Force duties changed, Minnesota Organic Advisory Task Force membership and procedures changed, and language requiring two annual reports eliminated.
HF797 (Emmer) Horses and other equines clarified as livestock and raising them is an agricultural pursuit.
HF840 (Juhnke) has been removed from the agenda.
