MINUTES

Representative Murphy, Cultural and Outdoor Resources Finance Division, called the meeting to order at 9:35 A.M. on August 23, 2010 in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Chair Murphy spoke to the purpose of today’s meeting and gave background information on the committee’s previous discussion of the "Legislative Audit Report: Public Libraries."

Public testimony on the "Legislative Audit Report: Public Libraries" was provided by the following individuals:
Tori Jensen, President, Minnesota Educational Media Organization
Paul Beckerman, High School Media Specialist, ISD 466
Chris Olson, Executive Director, Metropolitan Library Service Agency
Pat Conley, Director, Washington County Library
Lisa Finsness, Ph.D., Chair, State Library Advisory Council

Nancy Walton, Acting Director, State Library Services, Department of Education, presented the Department of Education’s status of recommendations they have agreed to pursue from the "Legislative Audit Report: Public Libraries."

Nancy Walton, Acting Director, State Library Services, Department of Education, presented the Department of Education’s status on library position vacancies.

Jen O’Rourke, Lobbyist, League of Minnesota Cities, responded to questions from the committee regarding the cities’ position on the "Legislative Audit Report: Public Libraries."

Committee discussion on local feedback concerning the "Legislative Audit Report: Public Libraries."

The meeting was adjourned at 11:55 A.M.
