MINUTES


Representative Mary Murphy, Chair, called the second meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Members present:

Members excused:

Chair Murphy called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.

A quorum was present.

Chair Murphy gave an overview of what would be covered by the agencies in their presentations.

Paul Erickson of Circle Pines, Executive Director of the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission, testified to the budget and functioning of the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission

Joel Carlson, Board Member of the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission, testified to the board’s perspective on the agency’s plan for self-sufficiency

Mr. Erickson and Mr. Carlson answered questions from the committee members

Representative Morgan moved that the minutes of January 12, 2009 be adopted
THE MOTION PREVAILED

Chair Murphy noted that reports were received regarding asset preservation from the Minnesota Historical Society and the Minnesota Zoo

Chair Murphy noted that today is the 40th Anniversary Party for the Legislative Reference Library and invited committee members and audience members to attend their celebration

Chair Murphy provided information on when the homework assignments are due for committee members and members of the public

Stanley Romanstein of Saint Paul, President of the Minnesota Humanities Center, testified to the budget and functioning of the Minnesota Humanities Center

David Lanegran of Saint Paul, Professor of Geography at Macalester College, testified to his involvement with the Minnesota Humanities Center and his work with the Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education

Dr. Romanstein and Dr. Lanegran answered questions from the committee members
