BIOSCIENCES AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES COMMITTEE

MINUTES


Representative Tim Mahoney, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 10:03AM on January 30, 2007 in Room 200 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Members present:

A quorum was present.

Representative Bunn moved that the minutes from January 24, 2007 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF 194(Norton)

Representative Norton moved that HF 194, a bill for an act relating to economic development; appropriating money for biotechnology and medical genomics research, be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Higher Education and Work Force Development Policy and Finance Division. Discussion followed.

Representative Norton moved to amend HF 194 as follows:

Page 1, line 1.9, after "development" insert "to the University of Minnesota through the Board of Reagents"

Discussion followed

Representative Beard assumed the gavel at 10:13AM.

Chair Mahoney assumed the gavel at 10:25AM.

Representative Norton moved to remove her amendment.

Representative Beard moved to amend HF 194 as follows:

Page 1, line 1.12, after "base" insert "through the fiscal biennium ending June 30, 2011."

Page 1, line 1.12, strike "and shall" and insert "this appropriation is"

THE MOTION DID NOT PREVAIL. THE AMENDMENT WAS NOT ADOPTED.

Representative Norton renewed her motion that HF 194 be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Higher Education and Work Force Development Policy and Finance Division. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:34AM.
