MINUTES


Representative Otremba, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:24 P.M. on, March 12, 2007, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Rep. Brown moved approval of the minutes from March 7, 2007.
THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

Representative Faust moved HF 551, the first committee engrossment (see language at: http://wdoc.house.leg.state.mn.us/leg/LS85/hf0551.1.pdf) be recommended to pass and re-referred to Committee on Taxes.

Representative Wollschlager explained HF 551 Tax deduction for out-of-state active military duty clarified.

Speaking in favor of HF 551 was:
Colonel Eric Ahlness, Department of Military Affairs, Minnesota National Guard

Representative Faust renewed his motion that HF 551, the first committee engrossment be recommended to pass and re-referred to Committee on Taxes.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Faust moved HF 1157, the first committee engrossment (see language at: http://wdoc.house.leg.state.mn.us/leg/LS85/hf1157.1.pdf) be recommended to pass and re-referred to the General Register.

Representative Haws explained HF 1157, the first committee engrossment, Minnesota "Support Our Troops" account fund uses expanded.

Testifying in favor of HF 1157 were:
Mr. Terrance J. Palmer, Department of Military Affairs

Representative Faust renewed his motion that HF 1157, the first committee engrossment be recommended to pass and re-referred to the General Register.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Doty moved HF 1134, the first committee engrossment (see language at: http://wdoc.house.leg.state.mn.us/leg/LS85/hf1134.1.pdf) be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance.

Representative Doty explained HF 1134 Minnesota National Guard Non-appropriated Fund instrumentality established.

Testifying in favor of HF 1134 were:
Colonel Eric Ahlness, Minnesota National Guard

Representative Doty renewed his motion that HF 1134, the first committee engrossment as amended, be recommended to pass and re-referred to Committee on Finance.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Faust moved HF 903, the first committee engrossment (see language at: http://wdoc.house.leg.state.mn.us/leg/LS85/hf0903.1.pdf) be recommended to pass and re-referred to the General Register.

Representative Severson explained HF 903, the first committee engrossment, Montgomery GI Bill for the Selected Reserves; Congress urged by resolution to permit members of the National Guard and reserves to receive and use federal educational benefits following separation from active status and discharge.

Representative Severson moved HF 903, the first committee engrossment be recommended to pass and re-referred to the General Register.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.
