RELEASE: Daudt urges maximum transparency in modeling presentation

Thursday, April 9, 2020

ST. PAUL, MN — With the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the University of Minnesota School of Public Health expected to hold a press conference Friday to present updated COVID-19 modeling data, House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, is urging maximum transparency and the public release of the data and assumptions driving decisions being made by MDH and the Walz administration.

"We all want to do our part to protect the health and safety of our neighbors during this crisis, and Minnesotans deserve to know data and assumptions that are driving the decisions being made," Daudt said.

Daudt is urging the Department to make public:

  • Source data and any assumptions or formulas factored into modeling for projected infection numbers, peak infection level and timing, and projected fatalities.

  • Source data and any assumptions or formulas factored into modeling for projected hospital bed, ICU, PPE, and ventilator demand.

  • Source data and any assumptions or formulas factored into the modeled spread of the virus in Minnesota.

  • Any additional modeling data, assumptions or formulas driving decisionmaking by the Executive Branch.

House Republicans submitted a data request last week, and Leader Daudt has formally requested the data being presented tomorrow so that there is sufficient time to review it before it is made public at 11AM. Legislative leaders are set to be briefed by MDH at 12PM — after the public presentation.

"Every day legislators are fielding dozens of calls from families and business owners whose lives have been turned upside-down as a result of decisions based on modeling data that has not yet been released to the public. It would be helpful for Minnesotans to see for themselves the data informing the Governor's executive orders–not just a few summary slides," Daudt concluded.
