Minnesota House passes Omnibus Pensions Bill

St. Paul, MN - Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed the Omnibus Pensions Bill, authored by Rep. Michael Nelson (DFL - Brooklyn Park), with broad bipartisan support. The bill, Senate File 1712/House FIle 1758, includes the approved legislation from the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement (LCPR). 



“After several meetings, the LCPR has put together a bipartisan, comprehensive bill that’ll benefit Minnesota’s retirees,” said Rep. Nelson. “We’re making the necessary changes to ensure our firefighters, teachers, and other public employees get the benefits they are owed.”



The omnibus bill contains several articles relating to the Minnesota State Retirement System (MSRS), the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA), and new or updated pension and retirement provisions:

 




  • Article 1: Minnesota State Retirement System Provisions

  • Article 2: Federal Compliance Affecting MSRS and PERA Eligibility for Certain Visa Holders

  • Article 3: PERA Administration Bill

  • Article 4: PERA Statewide Volunteer Firefighter Plan Provisions

  • Article 5: St. Paul Teachers Retirement Fund Association Provisions

  • Article 6: Volunteer Firefighter Relief Association Provisions

  • Article 7: Deadline for Agency Requests to LCPR Staff to Draft Bills

  • Article 8: Session Laws for Individuals

  • Article 9: Work Groups for 911 Telecommunicators and Supplemental State Aid

  • Article 10: Technical Clarifications and Corrections



The bill has now passed both legislative chambers, and is on its way to Governor Walz. The LCPR consists of seven members for the Minnesota House and seven members from the Minnesota Senate.
