Statement from Rep. Dehn on the Safety and Security of the 2020 Election

Tuesday, December 8, 2020

St. Paul, MN - Today, following a hearing of the Minnesota Senate’s State Government Finance and Policy and Elections Committee on the administration and security of the 2020 Election, State Representative Raymond Dehn (DFL - Minneapolis), the current chair of the House Subcommittee on Elections, released the following statement:

“I want to echo the words of Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon and emphasize that the 2020 Election in Minnesota was a success. In the face of a pandemic, Minnesotans turned out in nation-leading numbers, and all evidence points to a safe and secure election. These results should be celebrated, and while it is perfectly acceptable to kick the tires of our election system, what we are currently seeing in too many cases across the nation is the proliferation of conspiracy theories, unfounded and dangerous in their rhetoric.

“I commend all of the tireless public servants who ensured Minnesota’s success, and condemn in the strongest terms any efforts to intimidate or threaten these workers. No credible reports of voter misconduct or fraud have been reported in Minnesota’s 2020 Election. To assume otherwise without evidence only feeds into unwarranted mistrust in one of our most sacred institutions and the foundation of our democracy.”
