Minnesota House Climate Action Caucus celebrates Earth Day on its fiftieth anniversary

Wednesday, April 22, 2020

SAINT PAUL, MN — Today, April 22, is the fiftieth anniversary of Earth Day. Rep. Patty Acomb (DFL – Minnetonka), the Chair of the House Climate Action Caucus, released the following statement to commemorate the holiday.

“Today, 50 years after Earth Day was first celebrated, people still care deeply about protecting the planet and preserving our clean air, water, and land for future generations. As members of the Climate Action Caucus, we are committed to working with Minnesotans to confront the climate crisis and secure a future in which we all thrive. Earth Day brings us all together to thank those who came before us and act on behalf of those who will come after us.”

Chair Acomb, Rep. Frank Hornstein (DFL – Minneapolis), and Rep. Jamie Long (DFL – Minneapolis) spoke with former Vice President Walter Mondale about Earth Day earlier this week. Vice President Mondale was serving as a U.S. Senator for Minnesota when Congress established Earth Day in 1970. A recording of the conversation is available here.
