Stay at Home order extended to May 4: What you need to know

Thursday, April 9, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

The Stay at Home order that went into effect on March 27 is being extended to 11:59pm on May 3, 2020. Temporary closures of bars, restaurants, and other public places are also being extended to the same date. Click here for answers to frequently asked questions about what this means for you, your business, and your family.

I'm pleased to share news that Minnesota Veterans impacted by COVID-19 may be eligible for grants from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA). The grant application period began Monday, April 6 at 8 a.m. and could provide $1,000 one-time grants to eligible applicants. For more information about eligibility and how to apply, please visit www.minnesotaveteran.org/COVIDrelief.

Lastly, we learned just this afternoon that the Minnesota Department of Revenue is extending the Sales and Use Tax grace period on Sales and Use Tax payments for businesses identified in Executive Order 20-04. The department will not assess penalties or interest as follows:

-Identified businesses with a monthly Sales and Use Tax payment due March 20, 2020, will now have until May 20, 2020, to make that payment.

-Identified businesses with a monthly or quarterly Sales and Use Tax payment due April 20, 2020, will now have until May 20, 2020, to make that payment.

These businesses should still file their returns by the due dates but do not have to make payments until May 20, 2020. There is no grace period to make the Sales and Use Tax payment for April Sales and Use Tax—the payment and the return will remain due on May 20, 2020.

Thank you again for everything you and your family are doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We are all in this together, and we will get through these unprecedented times by caring for one another. Please contact my office if I can be of assistance with helping you navigate resources such as financial assistance for businesses, workers, families, and our veterans.

I hope everyone has a Blessed Easter.

Sincerely,

Paul Marquart

State Representative
