Update from Rep. Tabke: "Stay at Home" Executive Order

Wednesday, March 25, 2020

Tabke

Today, Governor Walz issued his “Stay at Home” Executive Order, ordering Minnesotans to stay at home from Friday, March 27, at 11:59pm through Friday, April 10, at 5:00pm.

This doesn’t mean that Minnesotans will be locked in their homes for two weeks, but rather the formal restriction of what many of us have already been practicing in order to slow the spread of the virus. Minnesotans are still able to grocery shop, go to the pharmacy, get some fresh air with a walk around the neighborhood, and conduct any essential travel or health care visits.

Additional executive orders issued today include the extension of closures for bars, restaurants, and other public accommodations until May 1, and schools will remain closed until May 4.

You can read the executive order here, which includes a comprehensive list of acceptable activities, exemptions, and critical sectors of work. A list of all current executive orders can be found here.

We know these measures are challenging, but the data shared by Governor Walz emphasized the grim reality of what this could cost Minnesota if we do nothing. We encourage everyone to watch Governor Walz’s address, which you can find here.

Our Work in the Legislature

Things can change by the hour these days, but right now our plan is for the Minnesota House and Senate to meet at the State Capitol tomorrow to pass a bipartisan package of legislation to better equip Minnesota to remain strong during and after this pandemic.

The Minnesota House is scheduled to begin at noon, and the Minnesota Senate at 2pm. Members of the public can watch the House floor session on the House websiteYouTube, and on TPT Minnesota. Video from all floor sessions is archived here.

Remember, We’ll be hosting daily Facebook Live updates, Monday-Friday, around 4pm. Feel free to post questions and comments there, or contact us directly.
