I hope you’re enjoying our winter weather! There are so many wonderful community events and activities during this time of the year, and I’m trying to make the most of them. Some of those fun winter events are mentioned in the White Bear Press calendar here.

Water Gremlin Public Meeting

On Wednesday, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), Department of Health (MDH), and Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) held an open house in Vadnais Heights. Agency staff shared information about the latest problems at the Water Gremlin facility – toxic lead dust that poisoned workers’ children and a report that found the company failed to comply with hazardous waste regulations for years – and the court-ordered clean-up that’s now in progress. Staff members also shared the results of air, soil, and water monitoring near the plant.

Listening to Paraprofessionals

Yesterday I had the opportunity to hear from paraprofessionals about issues they face while working in our schools. The 28,000 paraprofessionals who call Minnesota home are a vital piece of our school community. They deserve to have better pay, more manageable caseloads, and paid training.
