Rep. Brand Releases Statement on Highway 14’s exclusion from the 2019 BUILD Grants

Tuesday, November 12, 2019

St. Paul, MN – Following the decision of the US Department of Transportation to reject Highway 14’s application for a 2019 Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant, Rep. Jeff Brand (DFL – St. Peter) released the following statement:

“It’s extremely disappointing to see the US Department of Transportation’s decision today. Awarding Highway 14 with a 2019 BUILD Grant would have been a great example of the federal government partnering with Minnesota to address the deadliest stretch of road in the state. The expansion of Highway 14 is necessary for the safety of our community and the region, and despite today’s news, I remain committed to working with Governor Walz, my colleagues in the Legislature, and the broad coalition of local advocates on investing in these life-saving improvements.”

The application for the federal BUILD grant would have funded the expansion of the highway between the cities of Nicollet and New Ulm. None of the 2019 Build Grants were awarded to projects in Minnesota.
