Legislative Update - November 1, 2019

Friday, November 1, 2019

Rep. Wagenius

Dear neighbors,

While the Legislature doesn’t reconvene until February, my colleagues and I are busy gathering input from Minnesotans and preparing legislation. Here’s a quick update on what I’ve been working on, as well as things to come.

Opportunity to Support Clean Car Standards

As I mentioned in a previous email, Governor Walz recently announced that Minnesota will be the first Midwestern state to adopt clean car standards. The importance of the Governor’s decision cannot be overstated as we work to reduce carbon emissions. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is providing several opportunities for Minnesotans to be involved in preparing the framework for this transition, including a series of public meetings throughout the state. If you’d like to learn more about clean car standards, ask questions, and give feedback, I encourage you to attend one of these events. The Minneapolis meeting will be on Thursday, November 14 at the Urban Research and Outreach Engagement Center (2001 Plymouth Ave. N., Minneapolis, MN 55411) from 5 to 7 p.m.

You can also learn more and sign up for email updates at mn.gov/cleancars.

Climate Action Caucus Community Conversations

Last week the Climate Action Caucus kicked off a series of community events with a conversation about transportation! One of our goals as a caucus is bringing people with different backgrounds and areas of expertise together. We’re holding these public hearings so Minnesotans can join legislators and experts at the table and be part of creating a bold plan to combat the climate crisis.

The first community conversation was dedicated to transportation because it’s the largest source of Minnesota’s greenhouse gas emissions. The next will focus on housing and is scheduled for November 13.
