Runbeck not running for District 38A seat

According to candidate filings, Rep. Linda Runbeck (R-Circle Pines) is not running for the District 38A House seat she currently holds.

Runbeck has spent 14 years in the House over two stints — 1989-92 and 2011-present. She also served in the Senate from 1993-2001, leaving there to unsuccessfully run for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000.

A former president of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota and development director at the Minnesota Free Market Institute, Runbeck often sat on a tax committee or division, including the House Property and Local Tax Division in the current session. She chaired the division in 2011-12.

On her campaign website, Runbeck states: “As state representative, I’m driven by concerns that state government has become too big and unaccountable, that unelected bodies such as the Met Council and state agencies aren’t responsive to elected representatives or taxpayers, and that state problems too often get solved by spending more taxpayer money.”

In all but four years in the House, Runbeck served on a transportation committee or division. She chaired the House Transportation and Regional Governance Policy Committee in 2017-18.

Sixteen current House members are not seeking re-election to the body in November.
