Ecklund wins District 3A special election

Rob Ecklund is going from a county boardroom to the State Capitol.

The DFLer from International Falls garnered 63.85 percent of the vote to win Tuesday’s District 3A special election. Republican Roger Skraba received 19.46 percent of the 7,190 votes cast, and Kelsey Johnson, an independent candidate, finished with 15.91 percent.

Once sworn in, Ecklund will replace former Rep. David Dill, who passed away in August. No date has been announced when Ecklund will take the oath of office.

Committee assignments have yet to be made for Ecklund, who has served on the Koochiching County Board since 2011. His office will be 311 State Office Building and his office phone number will be 651-296-2190.

Ecklund has worked at PCA/Boise paper for 25 years and has served as president, vice president and treasurer of USW Local 159 for a combined 13 years.

He has been married to Joan for 30 years and they have three children. In addition to experience coaching little league and rec hockey and football, Ecklund is an avid hunter and fisherman.

Republicans now hold a 72-62 seat majority in the House.
