House repasses HHS policy bill without electronic records exemption

The House repassed the omnibus health and human services policy bill 133-1 Monday after accepting a Senate amendment that removed an electronic records exemption for some physicians.

Individual health care providers in private practice, and health care providers that do not accept reimbursement from a group purchaser, would not have been required to have an electronic health records system in their clinical practice setting, nor would they have been penalized for failing to meet the requirement. The Senate removed that provision when it passed the bill 52-11 Sunday.

Rep. Tara Mack (R-Apple Valley) and Sen. Kathy Sheran (DFL-Mankato) sponsor the bill, which includes several provisions requested by the Department of Human Services. HF1535*/SF1356 now moves to the governor.
