Starting Line: Protecting our state’s ‘most important resource’

Rep. Ron Kresha (R-Little Falls) says children are our most important resource. A father of five and former teacher, he is sponsoring a bill he says emphasizes the wellbeing of a child above government bureaucracy.

The bill, HF8, comes out of recommendations made by the Governor's Task Force on the Protection of Children. The task force was created after the tragic death of 4-year-old Eric Dean, who was repeatedly abused by his step-mother, Amanda Peltier.

Eric suffered a fatal abdominal injury in February 2013 at the hands of Peltier who was later sentenced to life imprisonment. Kresha says he wants to make sure reports of maltreatment don’t fall through cracks in the system.

HF8 is the topic of this week’s Starting Line
