Rep. Sandy Layman won't seek re-election

Rep. Sandy Layman (R-Cohasset) will not to seek re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives.

First elected in 2016 to represent District 5B, Layman said in a statement Tuesday that she had initially planned to seek a third term but recently decided she wanted to prioritize her private life.

“Not seeking re-election has been a very difficult decision, primarily because of the tremendous support I have received from constituents who quietly support my work and the many who have let me know from the beginning that they are praying for me,” Layman said. “Giving voice to these people at the Capitol is an awesome responsibility and I am so grateful to have had this opportunity.”

Layman has served on a number of committees during her time in the House, including Legacy, environment, job growth and energy affordability, higher education, Greater Minnesota, capital investment and government operations. Her legislative accomplishments include investments in rural broadband, legislation to lower health care premium increases, raising the age to purchase tobacco to 21 and tax relief.

Layman is the 15th member to announce they will not seek re-election to the House in November.
