House approves measure updating roadside repair contracts
The House passed a bill Monday that would better define repairs and replacements in motor vehicle service contracts.
HF3418, sponsored by Rep. Tim O'Driscoll (R-Sartell), would add a number of provisions to existing service contract requirements, including tire or wheel replacement, scratches and dents, windshield cracks or chips caused by road hazards and key fob replacement. It also would define what “road hazard” for insurance purposes.
O’Driscoll told the Chamber the bill would help Minnesota’s law conform with about 30 other states in roadside-repairs. It builds on a 2005 law that outlines the definition of service contracts.
“How does this benefit consumers?” O’Driscoll asked rhetorically. “It gives them other options.”
Following the 122-3 vote, the bill is headed to the Senate where Sen. Mark Koran (R-North Branch) is the sponsor.
