House OKs bill to close loophole in bidding process for water tower repairs

The bidding process cities go through to fix water towers could change under a bill passed 125-1 by the House Monday.
Sponsored by Rep. Bob Vogel (R-Elko New Market), HF1975 now goes to the Senate, where Sen. Mark Koran (R-North Branch) is the sponsor.
The bill is meant to clarify the open-bidding process when it comes to repairing water towers, Vogel said in committee last month, noting the current language allows cities to sometimes go around this process.
The bill would require cities to use the open-bidding process on water tower repairs for contracts expected to exceed $100,000.
