Minnesota drivers may be able to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty with special license plates.
Passed 125-0 by the House Monday, HF678 would create a special law enforcement memorial plate. Vehicle owners would need to pay a $10 fee and donate $25 to the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association to obtain the plate.
They would also be required to donate at least $5 in subsequent years.
“I think that it’s appropriate, with this bill, to allow for a memorial plate to honor and memorialize those law enforcement officers who have served and sacrificed on our behalf,” said Rep. Duane Quam (R-Bryon), the bill’s sponsor.
The bill now heads to the Senate, where Sen. David Senjem (R-Rochester) is the sponsor.
