Spending cap highlights drycleaner account changes passed by House

House Floor session - part 2 5/13/16
The account dry cleaners pay into for potential land contamination could be in for some changes after the House passed HF3685/SF3317* Friday by a vote of 128-0.

Sponsored by Rep. Tom Hackbarth (R-Cedar) and Sen. David Tomassoni (DFL-Chisholm), the bill will now be sent to Gov. Mark Dayton.

Among other provisions, the bill would limit the amount a dry cleaning facility would have to spend in a single fiscal year from 20 percent of the account’s balance to $100,000.

“If you have small mom-and-pop dry cleaner in your district, I think they will like you for this bill,” said Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL-South St. Paul).

The Drycleaner Environmental Response and Reimbursement Account was established in 1995.
