A pair of bills to rename stretches of Minnesota highway in honor of a fallen soldier and police officer killed in the line of duty are headed to the governor after passage Thursday by the House.
HF3104/SF2315*, sponsored by Rep. Dean Urdahl (R-Grove City) and Sen. Scott Newman (R-Hutchinson), would designate a segment of Highway 7 in McLeod County as the “Patrol Officer Michael Alan Hogan Memorial Highway.” Hogan was a 15-year police veteran who was shot and killed while responding to a shoplifting call in 1989.
Passed 124-0 in the House, the bill was passed 60-0 April 27 by the Senate.
The House also passed HF3652/SF3262*, sponsored by Rep. Jeff Backer (R-Browns Valley) and Sen. Torrey Westrom (R-Elbow Lake), that would rename a stretch of Highway 28 between Beardsley and Graceville the “Staff Sergeant Kevin Witte Memorial Highway.”
Passed 124-0 by the House, the bill would honor Kevin Witte, who was killed while serving in Iraq in 2006. It was passed 60-0 by the Senate April 28.
