Bill targeting deer hunter input moves to the Senate

Deer hunters could be targeted by the Department of Natural Resources’ annual satisfaction survey.

Sponsored by Rep. Joe Schomacker (R-Luverne), HF3135 would specify that deer hunters must be part of the survey and that information on their preferences, values and interests shall be collected.

Passed 119-7 by the House Wednesday, the bill goes to the Senate where Sen. Bill Weber (R-Luverne) is the sponsor.

“This bill just clarifies that the satisfaction survey we passed into law last year is a deer hunters’ satisfaction survey,” Schomacker said.

A summary of this data is to be submitted to the Legislature each year and the DNR would also make the summary information available on its website.

Schomacker also successfully offered an amendment that would require the DNR to use existing resources from the Game and Fish Fund to pay for any related costs.
