Release: Rep. Rehm welcomes House Capital Investment Committee, advocates for local infrastructure project in Chaska

Tuesday, October 10, 2023

Chaska, MN - Today, State Representative Lucy Rehm (DFL - Chanhassen) welcomed the House Capital Investment Committee to Chaska as part of the committee’s Southwest Regional Tour. As one of the first stops on this year’s tour of proposed projects for capital investment, Rep. Rehm, who serves on the House Sustainable Infrastructure Committee, highlighted a key local proposal.

The City of Chaska is seeking a $19.9 million investment for the 2024 session to revitalize the downtown, aimed at addressing shortcomings in public parking, fixing surrounding roads to ease traffic flow, improving walkability for pedestrians, and building public restrooms. The proposal would also utilize the funds to build a City Hall Plaza, a Community Room for the Arts Consortium, a Mercado Indoor Farmers Market, and a City Square West Plaza.

“When we invest in our communities, we’re investing in each other,” said Rep. Rehm. “Our quality of life here in Chaska is special. Utilizing state funds for this redevelopment project will help us build up our local economy, support our small businesses and entrepreneurs, keep pedestrians safer, improve efficiency with traffic flow, and much more. I’m looking forward to continuing to partner with the city and building on the work we were able to accomplish last session.”

Rep. Rehm successfully championed capital investment legislation this session, delivering $20 million for improvements to Highway 5, $10 million for County Highway 18 improvements, and $5.425 million to begin work for Chaska City Square West.
