SAINT PAUL – Representative Bernie Perryman, R-St. Augusta, released the following statement on the state budget forecast which showed a $2.4 billion surplus heading into next session, but a looming $2.3 billion deficit beginning in 2025:
“Last session, Democrats spent a historic $17.5 billion surplus and raised taxes another $10 billion on Minnesota families. While family budgets were shrinking because of increased cost of living and record inflation, Democrats grew government by 40%. Now, the forecast is showing the results of that out-of-control, tax-and-spend mentality: a deficit. It's time to get government spending under control and budget Minnesotans' hard-earned tax dollars wisely, instead of wasting money on pet projects and a massive increase in spending."
