CSG Midwest 77th Annual Meeting

Friends and Neighbors,

This week I had the extraordinary opportunity to attend the Council of State Government’s 77th Annual Meeting in Detroit Michigan. Legislators from all over the Midwest as well as provincial representatives from Canada and it was great to share ideas from so many different constituencies.

There were a number of break-out sessions to discuss some of the challenges we are all facing in local government even across national and international borders. Sharing knowledge from a wide variety of legislative backgrounds was great and I’m looking forward to implementing some of these insights when we are back in session.

We also had the opportunity to tour the site of what will be the Gordie Howe Bridge and learn about one of the busiest border crossing locations between the U.S. and Canada. Nearly 25% of all commercial transit between the two nations crosses in Detroit bringing goods back and forth with some of the most advanced border security including an X-ray machine that can scan an entire semi-truck and trailer.
