Legislative Update

Dear Supporters,

I appreciate your support and commitment to our great state! This year I chief authored a number of bills that made up my 2023 legislative priorities. I will continue to work diligently for a number of these bills that did not make it into law this year, as well as for the priorities that come up as we head into the 2024 session.

During this session, I focused on legislation to address the needs for our children, our elderly, law enforcement, veterans, emergency responders, medical freedom, and public safety. This biennium I am serving on the Transportation and Health Committees which gives me a seat at the table to improve our roads and bridges, as well as to defend concerns about our medical freedom.

Here is a bit more about the legislation I proposed:

  • House File 3022 is an anti-grooming bill. It protects our youngest children from explicit sexual grooming. This bill includes mandates to inform, involve, and receive consent from parents before exposing our children to unwanted sexual grooming. Twenty-Eight Republican Co-Authors signed onto this bill.
  • Our local community service professionals need our help. I believe a good way to support specific local needs is through tax credits.  We pay too much in taxes and legislation oftentimes negatively affects the earning opportunities for our community service workers. These community services are of the utmost importance and are the backbone to fortifying our district with greater opportunities and growth. Bills HF 3201, HF 3316, and HF 3317 allow for a two-year State Income Tax Credit for community workers in our nursing homes, assisted living, law enforcement, and emergency responders.
  • We are losing teachers to our neighboring states. I believe educating our children is our responsibility and teacher recruitment and retention has been limited by our State’s approach to educators. I have attached the Republican’s plan to improve education outcomes for children, parents, and teachers. House File 3318 allows for a two-year State Income Tax Credit for teachers to improve teacher recruitment and retention.
  • House File 2579 and HF 2901 honor our Veterans with memorial parks in Parkers Prairie and Clitherall Township.  It’s about honoring our fallen soldiers and our history!
  • Tyler Wohlers was killed while walking along State Highway 78 in Ottertail Minnesota. House File 3043 contributes to a community-financed project that improves public safety with a bike and walking path.
  • I have several concerns with regard to medical freedom and informed consent. Covid-19 mRNA vaccinations modify human genes and are listed as gene therapies in government filings. Oral mRNA vaccinations in cows have shown gene transfer through milk. House File 3319 calls for an assessment report in conjunction with research entities to learn about mRNA gene transfers and exposure to vaccine recipients.

This session was a fast-paced storm of far-left DFL priorities that unfortunately took up much of the conversation both here and across the country with numerous headlines about their progressive agenda that “puts New York and California Democrats to shame.” No matter the circumstance though I will continue to fight for what is right for the people of District 09B.

Attached is the one-pager handout Session Wrap that I have been bringing with me to Town Halls this interim. Please grab a copy here and join me at my next town hall event to share your thoughts. And as always feel free to contact me by email or phone with your concerns as well.
