Rep. María Isa Pérez-Vega Mourns Murder of Tou Ger Xiong

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The Hmong community and beyond mourn the loss of Tou Ger Xiong, a beloved storyteller, comedian, and activist who was tragically murdered on Monday, December 11, 2023. Tou Ger's life was a testament to the power of art, laughter, and unwavering commitment to building a more just and equitable world. 

Representative María Isa Pérez-Vega, a friend and pupil of Mr. Xiong, released the following statement:  

“Tou Ger was more than just a comedian or artist. He was a voice for the voiceless, a champion for the marginalized, and a friend to all who knew him. He was a multifaceted Hmong American who wove his personal narrative and cultural tapestry into captivating stories, bridging cultural divides with witty humor and unwavering activism. As a storyteller and artist, he fostered understanding while addressing issues like racial discrimination. Tou Ger's passion burned brightest for social justice. He championed the Hmong community and other marginalized groups, fiercely advocating for cultural competency and dismantling discrimination. His legacy, vibrant and enduring, reminds us of the power of storytelling, laughter, and unwavering dedication to building a more equitable world. Tou was a true inspiration, and his story will continue to resonate and inspire generations to come. He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, dedication, and the positive change he brought to the world. May he rest peacefully, and I send my deepest condolences to his family, the Hmong community, and anyone affected by his devasting death.”
