Rep. Feist statement on the new budget forecast

Tuesday, March 1, 2022

ST. PAUL – On February 28, officials from Minnesota Management and Budget released an updated budget forecast which projects a $9.25 billion state budget surplus for the current biennium. The analysis does not incorporate inflationary costs or the various impacts of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

Rep. Sandra Feist (DFL – New Brighton) issued the following statement:

“The new budget forecast shows a state at the start of an economic recovery. With the uncertainty brought on by a global pandemic and the recent Russian military invasion of Ukraine, the choices we make this session will have impacts felt in every corner of the state.

“The largest corporations and the wealthiest are doing better than ever, while many working families are still living paycheck to paycheck. If we ignore their needs, our economic comeback will be slowed. The choice is clear: we have the opportunity to keep growing our economy through investing in child care, education, family leave, and other cornerstones which will continue moving our state decisively in the right direction.

“As the Legislature debates what to do with the surplus, I will be laser-focused on doing everything I can to help the working families in my community.”
