RELEASE: Rep. Donald Raleigh to Introduce School Board Disclosure Bill to Protect Parental Privacy

Thursday, November 4, 2021

ST. PAUL, MN– State Representative Donald Raleigh, R-Circle Pines, announced today that he plans to introduce legislation to protect the privacy of those that appear and testify at local school board meetings. Currently, many school boards ask individuals to publicly share their home address before testifying.

The Raleigh proposal would prevent school boards from requiring a person to disclose their home address or other contact information before providing testimony at a meeting.

“This is a simple bill to make sure that parents engaged in the process of helping shape education policy through their local school boards do not fall victim to some of the despicable intimidation tactics that have been deployed against others around the country,” said Rep. Raleigh. “Last session, I successfully offered an amendment to the public safety omnibus bill that protects police officers from doxxing. The bill I am introducing follows in that same vein and would address the many privacy concerns from parents that have reached out to me in recent months.”
