Neighbors,

The 2023 legislative session will convene on January 3 to begin the process of crafting our new two-year budget. Earlier this month, my House DFL peers chose me to serve as an Assistant Majority Leader during the 2023-24 session. In this new role, I will collaborate with the Speaker, Majority Leader, and other members to develop and implement the legislative agenda.

My top priority will remain making sure Greater Minnesota has a voice at the leadership table. I am also a strong advocate for reproductive freedom, strengthening our democracy, and a robust bonding bill, and during session you will hear news on these efforts. You can read more here in this Mankato Free Press article from a Greater Mankato Growth legislative forum.

With a projected budget surplus, we can make positive impacts statewide. I’ve already been meeting with local community and business leaders to address issues of housing, workforce, mental health, education and more. There is a lot of need and this work ahead of time will shape the issues for which I advocate. Thank you for the privilege of serving our district and I look forward to continuing our partnership to improve the lives of all Minnesotans.

Heating Assistance Available

As temperatures continue to drop, a reminder the state Energy Assistance Program can offer financial assistance with heat and electric bills, emergency fuel deliveries, and repair or replacement of broken heating systems. Grants are based on household size, income, and utility costs, and average $500. Learn more or fill out an application here.

Also, the Cold Weather Rule is in effect which can prevent utility customers behind on their bills from having their electric or natural gas service shut off if they develop a payment plan with their service provider. Details about the protections under the rule are available here.

New laws take effect January 1

On January 1, new laws will take effect, including some consumer protection items and a requirement for postnatal care. You can read more here.

Happy Holidays to you and all those you hold dear!
