Perham receiving nearly $1 million for rehabbing properties

Thursday, September 9, 2021

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Jordan Rasmusson, R-Fergus Falls, announces Perham has successfully landed a $912,500 state grant for rehabilitating owner-occupied housing rehab and commercial properties.

The award was issued through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development’s Small Cities Development Program. Rasmusson said Perham officials indicate the city’s goal with these funds is to assist in the rehabilitation of 16 single family homes in Perham and 10 commercial buildings in downtown Perham.

“This is great news for the people of Perham, and I congratulate everyone involved in gaining this funding,” Rasmusson said. “Competition for these limited state grant dollars is always stiff, which makes it especially rewarding to be successful. I look forward to seeing positive local results in Perham with this funding.”

Perham Economic Development Director Nick Murdock said the timeline for receiving applications is not known, but the city hopes to kick off the program sometime this winter.

“Residents and businesses will be able to apply directly to the City of Perham for funds,” Murdock said. “Communications surrounding this program will be available on the city and Perham EDA websites as well as their respective Facebook pages. The Small Cities Development Program is a great way for smaller communities to make a positive impact on aging residential and commercial buildings. We are thankful that the State of Minnesota and DEED continue to support and administer this program.”
