Legislative Update- May 20, 2020

Wednesday, May 20, 2020

Rep. Edelson

Dear Neighbors,

Late Sunday night, the Minnesota Legislature adjourned. It has been truly an honor and gives me great joy to represent our Edina neighborhoods at the State Capitol. I look forward to continuing efforts that keep moving our community forward.

I’m proud of the swift, bipartisan work we delivered to increase resources to Minnesota’s health care workforce and public health infrastructure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We ensured health care and public safety workers would receive workers’ comp should they get sick with COVID-19. Additionally, the Legislature also approved an emergency response package of legislation providing flexibility and resources in a variety of areas during the crisis, including approval of wills and marriage licenses, expanded telemedicine, remote local government meetings, and alternative health care facilities.

As you know, one of the areas I was and still am working on closely with our governor is finding safe solutions for our small businesses to continue operations with public health at the forefront.

Retailers Now Open with Safety Procedures at Top of Mind

Since the #StaySafe order has gone into effect, I checked in with our local business owners on 50th and 44th France to see how it’s going.

If you’re as eager as I am to support our businesses, please respect fellow patrons and shop owners by wearing a mask, covering your cough, and practicing social distancing of six feet. Of course, if you’re not feeling well, please stay home.

Keep in Touch

Although the legislature has adjourned, the work doesn’t stop! House Speaker Melissa Hortman announced the formation of a Select Committee on Minnesota’s Pandemic Response and Rebuilding to explore the pandemic’s impacts and address any issues that may arise, which had its first meeting yesterday. You can follow the committee’s work here.

Please contact me anytime with questions, ideas, or to let me know how I can be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Heather Edelson

State Representative
