Legislative Update- Teacher Appreciation Week

Thursday, May 9, 2019
Dear Neighbors,

It’s National Teacher Appreciation Week! A big thank you to all of our educators who make a difference in the lives of students every day. One of the best ways we can share our gratitude to these public servants who are working hard to ensure our kids have a world-class education is to fully fund our schools.

With less than two weeks until the Legislature is constitutionally required to adjourn, I’ve provided some information below to highlight the stark differences between the House and Senate education funding proposals:
Our students deserve an education that helps them achieve success in the classroom, and in life.

Please feel free to share your concerns with Senator Anderson and Senate Majority Leader Gazelka about why funding our public schools matters to Plymouth.

Higher Education

I’m pleased to share that I’ve been appointed to the House/Senate Higher Education Conference Committee. We’re tasked with sorting differences between both versions of our budget bills. I’ll be working hard to ensure our full tuition freeze at the state’s two and four year public colleges and universities is included in budget negotiations. Student loan debt is plaguing our young graduates and families, causing too many to hold off on major financial decisions like buying a home, starting a family, or saving for retirement. All Minnesotans deserve the opportunity to earn a post-secondary education or certification without a burdensome debt load attached to it.

Keep in Touch

We’re still working toward compromise with the Senate. Please continue to reach out with questions or input. Your feedback is crucial in these final weeks of session.

Sincerely,

Ginny Klevorn
State Representative
