Rep. Jeff Brand joins Governor Walz for Highway 14 ribbon-cutting

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, Representative Jeff Brand (DFL – Saint Peter) joined Governor Tim Walz, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, United States Senator Amy Klobuchar, and other legislators and community leaders for the ribbon cutting of Highway 14 between New Ulm and Nicollet. The project converted the previously two-lane highway to a four-lane divided highway and added new interchanges at Brown County Road 37 near New Ulm and Nicollet County Road 12/24 near Courtland. The 12.5-mile project completes a continuous four-lane highway between New Ulm and Rochester.

“This highway sees 6,000 or so commuters and around 1,000 semis with finished goods and raw agricultural materials daily. Our community knows all too well the amount of tragedy that has occurred on this road,” said Rep. Brand. “For all the families that have a hole in their lives from losing a loved one on this highway, this road is dedicated to you. For those who have lost their lives or have survived with scars, this highway is dedicated to you. For anyone who travels on this road from now on - may you travel safely and not know what it is like to lose a loved one on this highway.

“Thank you to everyone for your patience as we’ve worked to complete this project and make the highway safer. Thank you to the men and women who took it apart and put it back together, better. And lastly, thank you to Governor Walz, former Transportation Commissioner Margaret Anderson Kelliher, former Mayor Robert Bussman, Mayor Al Poehler, Mayor Fred Froehlich, Nicollet County Commissioners and all the people who wrote letters of support for making this road 4 lanes.”
