Legislative Update (April 1, 2016)

Friday, April 1, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you’ve had a great week and are looking forward to a fun-filled weekend. I wanted to remind you that I’ll be at Mugshots Coffee tomorrow from 10:30 until noon for a legislative meet-and-greet. Mugshots is located at 10518 France Ave S, Bloomington, MN 55431. Please come with questions or suggestions; I can’t wait to see you!

REAL ID

The biggest news from the Capitol this week was the passage of a bill to start Minnesota toward REAL ID compliance. I’ve heard from many Bloomington residents who have concerns about flying or entering certain federal facilities because of a lack of REAL ID in Minnesota, and I’m proud to vote to start our state toward implementation.

This bill allows the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) to research needed steps for compliance. By repealing the ban on DPS, we should receive greater latitude from the federal government, helping relieve some of the anxiety related to Minnesota’s lack of REAL ID compliance. I understand there are privacy concerns and other matters to discuss, but we needed to take this first step to ease the concerns of Minnesotans.

New Bill

One of the main issues in our area over the past few months has been trash and waste collection. I authored a bill, HF3708, to address this problem throughout the state. I know it’s a central concern to many in our district, and I appreciate all of your feedback on this topic.

MNsure Difficulties

You’ve probably seen in the news that Minnesota’s healthcare exchange, MNsure, left many in our state waiting for their 1095-A tax form. Because of the continued glitches, members of the House of Representatives launched a website to better understand Minnesotans’ issues with MNsure. If you’re having difficult receiving your 1095-A form, or have encountered another problem using MNsure, please visit the site to share your thoughts and concerns.

Constituent Visits

It was another productive week of meeting residents of 50B. I spoke with a constituent for Mental Health Day at the Capitol, as well as advocates for the Alzheimer’s Association. Thanks for stopping by!

During session, please try to reach out and contact me with any questions or concerns. I always enjoy hearing from you, and hope you’ll contact me whenever you’re free. My phone number in St. Paul is 651-296-4218 or try rep.chad.anderson@house.mn.

Have a great weekend!
