Legislative Update (March 13, 2015)

Friday, March 13, 2015

Friends and neighbors,

As the deadline for committee action on a bill approaches, I am working with my colleagues to ensure that my legislative priorities continue to progress this session.

My second bill of the legislative session, HF1416, was heard in the Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance committee this week. My bill lowers the base tax rate and taxable wages for unemployment insurance, providing a financial boost to our Minnesota businesses. I’m proud to report that my bill is being considered for possible inclusion in a budget bill this session.

I enjoyed meeting with our Hennepin County officials and many of you at the Regional Planning Discussion, held this week to discuss recent Metropolitan Council transit plans. I’m committed to reducing transit times and difficulties for our families across the district, and it was helpful to hear many of your thoughts and concerns on recent plans. I am continuing to work with Representative Peppin and my colleagues to introduce bills that will provide real fixes to your transportation concerns.

Thank you to Primrose School of Maple Grove for inviting me recently to read “Green Eggs and Ham” to their students! I had a great time celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday and “Read Across America” day with Maple Grove and Osseo’s youngest residents. I’m committed to preserving the opportunity to chase down big dreams for all of our children.

Please continue to stay in touch to discuss your thoughts and concerns on any legislation or community issues. You can schedule a time to meet with me in my office by calling (651) 296-5356, or by emailing me at Rep.Dennis.Smith@house.mn. It is helpful to me to know where our community stands on many of the pressing issues we discuss here in the legislature.

Have a great weekend.

Dennis
