Legislative Update (Aug. 28, 2015)

Friday, August 28, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

As you may have heard, the suspect in the AMC Maple Grove theater shooting has been apprehended. The Maple Grove Police Department reported that the shooter was captured on Monday in Brooklyn Center. Again, this was an isolated incident and I am grateful for the work our local police have done to continue to keep our community safe.

Congrats to CAPSH on 30 Years

On Wednesday, I was fortunate to attend the 30th anniversary of Community Action Partnership of Suburban Hennepin (CAPSH). For three decades, this organization has worked throughout the Hennepin County suburbs to serve low-income residents.

CAPSH provides assistance ranging from employment and financial counseling to food and energy aid. Through these programs, this partnership empowers low-income families and individuals to stay informed in order to make the best decisions possible for their future.  I was privileged to speak with CAPSH employees, as well as those whom CAPSH has been able to assist, and was impressed with the variety of services offered, and the positive impact this organization has on our community. Congratulations to CAPSH on being an essential part of our area for 30 years.

What’s Next

With school right around the corner and August coming to a close, it can mean only one thing: the Minnesota State Fair! I will be attending on September 4th and hope to see some of you there. As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns (or advice on what State Fair foods to try!) by phone at (651) 296-5502 or email at Rep.Dennis.Smith@house.mn.

Enjoy your weekend,

Dennis
