Legislative Update (August 24, 2015)

Monday, August 24, 2015

Dear Neighbor,

By now, you have more than likely heard about the incident that occurred Saturday evening at the Maple Grove AMC movie theater parking lot.

Around 9:50 PM, Saturday evening, the Maple Grove Police were dispatched to the AMC parking for a report of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, police were informed that two victims had left the parking lot together and called 911 from a Brooklyn Park Wendy’s. Both individuals were taken to the hospital, treated for non-life threatening injuries, and released.

Since the incident, I have been in contact with Maple Grove Chief of Police, Eric Werner, and Hennepin County Sheriff, Rich Stanek, and have been assured that the shooting was an isolated incident and was not a random act of violence. The fact that the incident took place in the AMC parking lot is purely coincidental and has nothing to do with the movie theater or any other local business or establishment.

The investigation is ongoing but rest assured, there is no danger to the public and Maple Grove remains a safe and secure community. Once again, this was an isolated incident where both individuals were specifically targeted.

I will keep you updated as more information becomes available. In the meantime, please feel free to contact my office if you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached via email at Rep.Dennis.Smith@house.mn or via phone at (651) 296-5502.

Sincerely,

Dennis
