Legislative News and Views - Rep. Eric Lucero (R)

Back to profile

One *EXPENSIVE* Minnesota

Friday, February 22, 2019

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Gov. Walz released his 2-year budget proposal this week which seeks to blow the roof with explosive spending and tax hikes!

Rep. Lucero visiting with St. Michael Mayor Kevin Kasel and City Administrator Steve Bot at the Capitol this week during League of Minnesota Cities Day on the Hill.

GOV. WALZ’S CRIPPLING BUDGET PROPOSAL

Gov. Walz is proposing a massive 70% increase in the gas tax that would vault Minnesota to the fourth highest gas tax in the nation! The gas tax hits low and middle-income families hardest and will increase the cost of goods and services for each one of us! Moreover, Gov. Walz is proposing to reinstate the 2-percent healthcare provider tax hike which would add more than a billion dollars to the cost of health care over the next two years alone!! Health care costs are not lowered by increasing health care taxes.

Gov. Walz’s budget is a recipe for a One Expensive Minnesota by raising the cost of gas, health care, and many of the other goods and services Minnesotans rely on. Gov. Walz’s budget proposal seeks to raise taxes by more than $3 billion over the next two years at a time when Minnesota has a $1.5 billion budget surplus.

You know you can continue to count on me to vote against Democrat demands for tax increases!

FULL GENDER SPECTRUM EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT (ERA)

States such as California and New York recognize multiple genders and Facebook offers well over 50 different genders to choose from. According to House research staff, Minnesota presently does not define "gender" yet there is a Democrat proposed amendment seeking to add "gender" to the MN Constitution.

Wednesday this week in Judiciary Committee we heard HF 13 which seeks to add the full gender spectrum to the MN Constitution. During the committee hearing, the bill's chief author testified she purposely replaced the word "sex" in her proposed constitutional amendment with the word "gender" in order to be as "broad and inclusive of all genders as possible."

Many organizations are opposed to or have expressed high concern for HF 13 including Minnesotan Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL), the Minnesota Family Council (MFC), and Child Protection League Action (CPLA). Moreover, seven different women testified in person or submitted written testimony against the bill due to the fact HF 13 will result in the exact opposite of what bill supporters claim.

HF 13 is a threat to women’s rights, children’s rights, religious rights, the pro-life movement, and much, much more. Abortion activists have already filed lawsuits in other states that have an Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in order to further their extremist goal of expanding abortions.

Rep. Lucero joining a press conference this week as co-author of HF 1334 which seeks to propose a constitutional amendment question on the 2020 ballot to read as follows: "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to protect the right of the people to keep and bear arms?"  Minnesota is one of a handful of states in which the State Constitution is silent on gun rights.

RALLY TOMORROW TO DEFEND THE 2ND AMENDMENT

Those committed to eroding the Constitutional Rights of law-abiding gun owners are working hard to pass legislation this session. Michael Bloomberg's out-of-state gun control agenda is in full force after spending more than $1 million electing an anti-gun majority in the MN House. It was announced this week two anti-gun bills will receive committee hearings Wednesday next week, February 27th from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Valley View Middle School in Edina, MN. Metro-centric, anti-gun Democrats continue to use our children as political props for their extremist agenda.

Please join myself and thousands of law abiding gun rights supporters tomorrow Saturday February 23th at 11 AM for the 2019 MN Rally to Defend the 2nd Amendment in the Capitol Rotunda hosted by the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus! I hope to see you there!!

Rep. Lucero ran into Clifford the Big Red Dog and the Cat in the Hat at the Capitol this week but was disappointed there were no green eggs and ham to be found!
